Balthazar de Gabiano

imprimeur-libraire

Traditionally thought to be responsible for financing (rather than printing) the series of Lyonese counterfeits of the Aldine octavo italic editions, probably owning the italic type used. He is referred to in a colophon as Balthasari calcographo Lugdunen.
Shaw’s article distinguishes a series of states of the type and ascribes one set of editions to Barthélemy Trot rather than to Gabiano:
