Michel Tholoze
Printer in Paris, [1496?]-[1503?]

Imprimeur-libraire

BMC records doubt about the date of the start of Tholoze’s activity, which has been put as early as 1482 or else 1492. The earliest attested date is 1499 but some of his work may date from before his change of address in 1496. Inventaire chronologique, t. 1, does not record any signed books in the sixteenth century: all the items listed here are assigned to Tholoze on typographical grounds.

In 1501, he seems to have been working for Denis Roce. The roman types which he used are said to have passed to Nicolas Des Prez in 1505.

Addresses
In claustro Brunelli, in intersignio cornu cervi (in the Clos Bruneau, at the sign of the hart’s horn).
From 1496, In vico Amygdalorum, divi Ioannis evangelistae effigie ipsius aedes indicante (rue des Amandiers, at the sign of St John the Evangelist).
