Antoine Verard
Printer in Paris, 1485-1513

Libraire-juré (to 1508, succeeded as libraire-juré by André Bocard); succeeded in business by his son Barthélemy Verard. Guillaume Eustace seems to have taken over some of his publishing activities from c. 1512.

Verard was not a printer himself but seems to have owned typographical material for use by others in books which he commissioned, especially in books in French. Where possible these printers have been listed under their own identities on the basis of types, woodcuts and initials (see Gillet Cousteau, Philippe Pigouchet). All works printed for Antoine Verard are listed below, including the remaining editions where a printer could not be identified.

A group of editions dated to 1507 are distinguished by the use of a direction line code indicating the title of the work in question.
